MultiChoice Intensifies Crackdown on Waka TV Piracy
Irdeto, a subsidiary of MultiChoice Group, has achieved further success in its ongoing efforts to dismantle the Waka TV pirate streaming network.
Following multiple law enforcement actions in 2024, Irdeto announced on Friday that it recently collaborated with Western Cape police to conduct a raid in Worcester, near Cape Town. The operation led to the arrest of an individual suspected of selling smart TV boxes preloaded with applications granting unauthorized access to DStv content.
In partnership with the Western Cape commercial crimes investigation unit, authorities also seized 12 smart TV boxes, a mobile phone, and a USB stick, though Irdeto did not disclose the contents of the confiscated devices.
The arrested suspect was allegedly identified as a Waka TV reseller, further reinforcing his role in facilitating piracy.
“MultiChoice, Irdeto, and law enforcement agencies had a significant impact in 2024, successfully carrying out 10 raids nationwide. These operations resulted in the arrests of key figures linked to Waka TV, one of Africa’s largest pirate networks,” Irdeto stated.
